Read These Books to Completely Transform Your Life


Up until about 3 years ago, I knew nothing about personal development. I don’t enjoy reading all that much and I never thought a book could change my life.  It honestly wasn’t until I starting coaching through Beachbody that I learned about personal development. I realized how much books can change your mindset and that’s why I made this list of the Top 8 Life-Changing Personal Development Books.

When I started coaching I quickly learned that to do well I was going to have to go way outside of my comfort zone!  Every successful coach would say that reading or listening to personal development was an absolute must when it came to building my business.

I didn’t understand why, but when I decide I’m going to do something I go all in!  Although I realized over time that coaching wasn’t for me, I did learn so much about myself in the process.  I am still so grateful that I decided to coach and I have developed some great relationships along the way.

Learn Something From Everything

I have learned in life that we don’t always succeed at everything we try, but each small decision leads to bigger and better things. Did I become a millionaire doing it? No, but it got me where I am today and gave me the courage to change many aspects of my life.  The main thing that gave me courage and self-confidence was personal development.

When I started reading my first book I committed to 10 minutes each evening.  I quickly learned that was not going to work for me.  First of all, I don’t love reading, so I would put it off until I was nearly sleeping at night.

Second of all, reading makes me tired, so clearly it wasn’t a great combination!  I was not getting very far at all and I was ready to give up on it altogether.

Hello, Personal Development Audiobooks!!

This is when I decided to give audiobooks a try.  This was a complete game-changer for me! Pretty much all of the books on my Top 8 Life-Changing Personal Development Books list I listened to on Audio.  I realized that I had so much more time in my day to listen to a book rather than read one.  At the time I had a decent commute to work, so it was so easy to fit into my day.  Now I listen to my book while I’m driving, cooking, cleaning, or walking the dog.

I can’t even explain how much these books have changed my life. There are times when I’m in between books and I slack off for a little bit.  I can physically and mentally feel a difference when I don’t make time for personal development in my day. I will start by making myself listen to at least 10 min in the car on the way to work, before putting music on.  Before I know it I’m 20 minutes in and I get to work more motivated than ever.

Personal development has helped me with my anxiety, motivation, reaching my goals, patience, and my health and fitness. I am so grateful for these amazing people out in the world that have so much knowledge to share. Certain people were put here to help others in so many different ways, so I will forever seek these people out.  I will continually try to learn as much as I can about bettering my life, so I can return the favor and help all of you!

Okay, here is my list of my Top 8 Life-Changing Personal Development books!

#1 Girl Wash Your Face

Author:  Rachel Hollis


“Girl Wash Your Face” is #1 New York Times bestseller!  Rachel Hollis has an immense online community where she shares her own real-life experiences to help inspire other women.  In this book, she exposes the 20 lies and misconceptions that too often hold us back from living joyfully and productively.  These are lies we have all told ourselves so often we don’t even hear them anymore.

My Thoughts

This was one of the first personal development books I read and I’m so glad I did!  There is a reason I put this at the top of my Top 8 Life-Changing Personal Development Books list!  Rachel has a way of relating to so many women under so many different circumstances.  She is so relatable and hits home on so many topics that so many women struggle with.  After reading (or listening to) this book, I felt so motivated to take on my goals and stop making excuses for myself.

When I am having a bad or stressful day I know I can listen to her for 15 minutes and completely change my mood.  I find her books to be an affordable therapy!  If you are stuck in your life and are ready to make some changes, I highly recommend buying this book.  You will not be disappointed!

#2 Girl Stop Apologizing

Author: Rachel Hollis

Yep, my #2 pick is again by Rachel Hollis!  I just can’t get enough of her.  If you don’t already follow her on Instagram go find her and start following.  She’s so down to earth and has the cutest little family!


This book again was a #1 New York Times bestseller. In this book, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call and lets listeners in on her roadmap to success.  She knows many women have been taught to define themselves through other people instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. Rachel is challenging women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams.  She identifies all of the excuses we constantly tell ourselves that are keeping us from reaching our biggest goals.

My Thoughts

Again, I loved this book!  As a mom, wife, dental hygienist, and entrepreneur I relate so much to what she is trying to get across in this book.  Us women have so many demands put on us by other people, mostly our own families.  We are expected to meet everyone else’s needs before our own and if we don’t we are considered selfish or a bad mom or wife.

I struggle with this so much.  I have never been the “stay at home” kinda mom and I never will be.  Of course, I love my kids more than anything, but I still put my own goals at the very top of my todo list.  I am constantly working on improving myself and working towards my goal of working mostly from home.  I’m constantly working so hard towards that flexibility in my life and the only way I’m going to get there is through hard work.

My husband and kids know that I am working towards these things and they are supportive of me, luckily!  I will not feel bad for making my kids entertain themselves while I get work done.  Before reading this book I always had this underlying guilt about not wanting to spend every waking second with my kids, but now I know I’m not alone in this. I will continue to strive to be the best mom and wife I can be, while still reaching for my goals.  I’m doing it right now as I type this!!

#3 The 10X Rule

Author: Grant Cardone


Grant Cardone’s mission in this book is to teach people how to take massive action in their lives to achieve their goals.  He says, if you want to achieve extreme success, you can’t operate like everybody else and settle for mediocrity.  You need to remove luck and chance from your business operation and lock in massive success.  This book gives you a step-by-step guide on how to achieve phenomenal success for yourself!

My Thoughts

This book sounds intense right?!  It is!  When I read/listened to this book I was still coaching actively.  I was always looking for motivation to keep me going.  After listening to this book I had the best month in coaching I ever had.  I was so motivated and it made me work harder than ever!

It’s one of those books that I should probably listen to several times a year because he is so incredibly motivating and I love his “no-nonsense” approach. My favorite chapter is Chapter 6: Assume Control for Everything.  Grant says at the beginning of this chapter that he was going to call it “Stop Being a Little Bitch”, but he ended up changing it.

I loved this chapter because it’s about taking responsibility for yourself and stop blaming other people for your failures.  This is something I am so passionate about because I have seen so many people go nowhere in life and blame everyone else but themselves.  Mainly, it made me want to instill this in my children and make them take accountability when they screw up!

This book did make me so motivated and just typing this makes me want to read it again.  He’s blunt and to the point and that is something I lack, so I need more of this is my life.  Grant, I want to be like you someday!

# 4 Signs

Author: Laura Lynne Jackson

This book takes a different turn on the rest, but it was also impactful in my life, so that’s why I included it in my list. It’s not even considered a “personal development” book, but this is my list and I can do what I want!


Laura Lynne Jackson is a psychic medium and the author of this New York Times bestseller. She can communicate with loved ones who have passed, convey messages of love and healing, and she has a greater understanding of our interconnectedness.

Laura shares in this book how we can all learn to communicate with our loved ones who have passed.  She tells endless stories of families she has worked with and how their loves ones have sent them clear messages from above.

As we learn, ask for, and recognize signs from the other side, we will start to find meaning where before there was only confusion, and see light in the darkness. She does her best to help her readers see the mystical in every day.

My Thoughts

I know for some of you this may sound like a load of crap and I get it!  Everyone has different beliefs on this topic, but personally, it came to me at the perfect time.  Three years ago I lost my dad.  Before that, I was never a super religious person, but when I lost him I wanted to be.  I had to believe that there is something out there after we pass.  I couldn’t bear the thought of him just being gone and that’s it.

On top of that, I’m so interested in mediums and physics. I find it so interesting and I have always believed in them to some extent, even though my husband thinks I’m crazy.

My First Sign

A few months ago, my sister, Lauren, texted me and told me I had to listen to one of Chelsea Handler’s podcasts.  She said when she heard it she thought of me and my dad and she knew I would like it. One day while walking the dog I finally listened to it and I was hooked!  Chelsea was interviewing Laura and telling her own story about getting signs from her brother who had passed. It was so enthralling that I had to buy her book.  I also love Chelsea Handler, so I would pretty much do anything she told me to!

Mostly I listened to it when I was driving and it made me start looking for signs from my dad.  I was seeing them!  You may think I’m crazy, but I’m telling you they were there.  Some of them include oranges, black cats (if you knew me and my dad you would understand), and money.  Yes, he sent me fucking money!  I’m not joking!

Anyway, regardless of what you believe I think everyone who is missing someone who passed should give this book a try. It might just open up your eyes to a whole new world!

#5 The Four Agreements

Author: Don Miguel Ruiz


In the Four Agreements, bestselling author Don Miguel Ruiz reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs that rob us of joy and create needless suffering.  This book is based on ancient Toltec wisdom.  It offers a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love.

My Thoughts

When I decided to read this I was at a turning point in my life.  I was unhappy at my current job and not sure what I wanted to do next and how I was going to get out of there. Feeling stuck and unhappy my vision for my future was unclear.  I am used to having a clear cut goal or dream in mind and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life.

Once again, I turned to personal development to help put me in a better mood overall. This book helped me a lot by giving 4 things, or agreements, that we can do that can make a huge impact on our lives. I try to implement these into my everyday life, but it’s not always easy.  Some of them are a lot harder than they may seem.  I do recommend reading this book and trying day by day to use these 4 agreements, which can, in turn, make you a better version of yourself.

The 4 Agreements:
  1. Be impeccable with your word, and never use it against yourself or others.
  2. You won’t need to take things personally if you have a strong sense of yourself.
  3. Instead of making assumptions, we should ask questions instead.
  4. Shows how to put the first 3 into practice. This agreement is to always do your best, even if your best constantly changes.

Now seriously think about these 4 things and think about how much different your attitude towards life would be. I know I need a refresher on this book for sure!

#6 Unfu*k Yourself

Author: Gary John Bishop


Unfuck Yourself is a New Your Times bestseller.  If you are feeling fucked up in your life Gary John Bishop has the answers for you.  This is a straightforward handbook.  He gives you the tools and advice you need to demolish the slag weighing you down and become the best version of yourself.

Gary has a series of seven assertions:
  1. I am willing
  2. I’m wired to win
  3. I got this
  4. I embrace the uncertainty
  5. I’m not my thoughts; I am what I do
  6. I’m relentless
  7. I expect nothing and accept everything

My Thoughts

This book from my list of LIfe-Changing Personal Development books was another one that I read when I was at that turning point in my life.  It honestly gave me the courage I needed to leave my job that I was unhappy with and pursue my dream of working from home. I don’t know if I would have had it in me to do it without Gary cussing at me in his audiobook. I mean when you put fuck in front of a sentence it just means more. Right?!

“It isn’t other people that are standing in your way, it isn’t even your circumstances that are blocking your ability to thrive, it’s yourself and the negative self-talk you keep telling yourself.

I’m constantly letting the crap going on in my head get to me. My goal right now is to build this blog, make it a career for myself, and help lots of other women along the way. I have to have faith in myself that if I work hard enough it will all work out. I can’t let all the negative bullshit talk me out of doing it.  Books like this are exactly what you need if you are having self-doubt and need the courage to take that next step towards your dream life.

#7 Atomic Habits

Author: James Clear


The book, Atomic habits was written by James Clear.  He offers a proven framework for improving every day.  James reveals practical strategies that will teach you exactly how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results.

He says that if you are having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn’t you.  The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don’t want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change.

After reading this book you will learn how to:

  • Make time for new habits (even when life gets crazy)
  • Overcome a lack of motivation and willpower
  • Design your environment to make success easier
  • Get back on track when you fall off course and much more…..

My Thoughts

This book was the only book on my list of Life-Changing Personal Development Books that I didn’t choose to read. One of my past bosses made this book a requirement for our entire staff to read.  I did enjoy this book (other than having to write a small report about it).  It did make me take a second look at my daily habits.  I realized I already have several good habits that have drastically changed my life for the better.  On the other hand, I learned I have several bad habits.  This book gives some great tips on how to stop bad habits and increase the good ones.

My biggest take away from this book:

Even the smallest daily habits lead to big changes in our lives.  Exercise is a great example of this.  If you exercise once day, you may feel better for a short time, but you will not see or notice a difference in your body or health. Or something as simple as drinking more water! If you get in the habit of drinking more water you can change your health and the way your body functions. It makes it seem so simple!

On the other hand, if you exercise every day for a month, you may lose weight, feel stronger, have more confidence, fit in your clothes better, etc.  You get my point, right?  Once again, I would recommend this book if you are struggling to stay on track and reach whatever goals you are working towards.

#8 Body Love

Author: Kelly Leveque


Kelly Leveque is a health and wellness consultant.  In this book, she shares her secrets for losing weight, attuning ourselves to our bodies’ needs, and freeing ourselves from food drama.  Kelly’s food freedom program helps you set yourself up for success, eliminating cravings, mood swings, and other symptoms caused by food drama.

Body Love is packed with delicious and healthy recipes including her “Fab Four Smoothies”. She explains how to have the perfect ratio of protein, fat, fiber, and carbs in your diet.  Once you find your balance, you will lose weight, lose fat, increase lean muscle mass, and drop at least one size.  She’s working with tons of celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Molly Sims, and Chelsea Handler.

My Thoughts

Out of my Life-Changing Personal Development Books, this is one of the only ones I own a hard copy of.  When books have recipes in them I prefer to have a hardcopy. It’s easier to find what I need and sometimes you just want the physical book.

First of all, I love reading books about nutrition!  I’m obsessed with learning new ways to feel my absolute best. At the time I decided to buy this book I was struggling with hunger. 90% of the time I was eating healthy, but I was starving every 3 hours!

I was working at a dental office that took a later lunch.  I would eat my breakfast (which was my shake) as late as I could in the morning, but a few hours later I would be dying!  Then I still had to wait another hour or two until I ate lunch.

This might sound crazy, but I was having anxiety the night before just thinking about how hungry I was going to be.  I don’t know about you, but when I’m super hungry I can’t even think straight!  I was struggling.  Anyway, after reading a short portion of this book, I learned about the “Fab Four Smoothie”.

This was a total game-changer for me!

I learned how to make The Best Breakfast Smoothie for Weight Loss and I was amazed at how long it kept me full.  It became so much easier for me to make it to lunch without wanting to die. The main ingredient, that I realized I was leaving out, was fat.  Adding a little fat to my smoothie made all the difference in the world.

Kelly also talks a lot about our carb intake and how it affects our blood sugar, cravings, and mood.  Sugar is my #1 demon and I will forever be trying to find that perfect balance in my life.  I don’t believe in completely restricting anything from my diet, so I try to find a healthy way to have it in moderation without binge eating.

I recommend this book if you are struggling with any of the things I mentioned above.  It did enlighten me and open up my eyes to what I was putting in my body and how it was affecting my overall health.  Kelly’s way of finding balance in life is so inspiring.  She is healthy mentally and physically and this is something I constantly try to improve on.
