3 Things You Need to Add to Your Morning Routine

How you start your day is so important! The most successful people get up early and have a productive morning routine. These 3 simple steps will start your day off on the right foot and set you up to reach all of your goals!

If you are having a hard time getting motivated, try these 3 simple steps! These 3 things you need to add to your morning routine will start your day off right!  I know this because I do them every. single. day!  Don’t get me wrong, I used to sleep in until the last possible second.  I would wake up groggy and usually frustrated with one of my kids in my face.

This is no way to start your day. Start your day on your time with these 3 things that will help you better yourself.  These steps are totally attainable and if you try them for just one week I promise you will feel amazing.  I’m not asking you to get up at 5 am and workout or eat only vegetables (that’s in my next post. haha). I’m just asking that you incorporate these 3 steps into your daily routine for 1 week and see how you feel!

Step 1. Start your day with a healthy protein shake

You should really look forward to your shake.  It should feel like a treat each morning.  I’m sure you have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and it’s true!

Step 2.  Read or listen to at least 15 Minutes of personal development each morning

A few years ago I became a Beachbody coach and it taught me so much about myself.  One of the most important things it taught me was to work on my personal development. 

I really didn’t even know what it was before coaching.  I’ve never been a huge reader and when I had free time I would scroll through Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest.  I was not productive with my time, even though I thought I was working. 

When I first tried reading a personal development book, it took me months to get through it, because I’m not a big reader.  I never have been.  I would put it off until I was practically falling asleep at night and then I would make it about 5 minutes before passing out.


The game-changer for me was Audiobooks!  I drive quite a bit for work and I get tired of listening to music all the time. My favorite and easiest way to buy audiobooks is through Audible

I have bought several books on audio and now I make myself listen to at least 15 minutes during my morning drive before switching over to Pandora. 

Most of the time I get really into the book and listen to even more or listen while I’m cooking, or walking the dog.  You can definitely fit this in your day somewhere, I don’t care how busy you are.

Listening to personal development has completely changed my life!  It can help with anxiety and gives you so much motivation to work on reaching your goals.  Just like I’m doing right now while I type this! 

There are so many different types out there.  You have to find something that is relevant to you and what’s going on in your life right now. 

I know what it feels like to be stuck in life and feel like you have mountains to climb before you will find true happiness.  I wish I would have known about personal development when I was at the lowest point in my life because I know it would have helped me get through it.

Step 3. Get up an hour earlier

I have not always been a morning person, but now I live for this hour every day!  Most mornings I get up at least an hour before my kids. 

I started this a few years ago when I decided to start working out in the morning.  I knew I had to get it out of the way before the kids were up and getting ready for school, or it just wouldn’t happen. 

I’m not gonna lie, this was hard at first.  It’s not easy getting out of bed when you know you can sleep another hour or so, but once you realize how great it makes you feel you will love it!  

You will have so much more patience with your kids when they wake up and you will feel refreshed and ready to take on your day.

If you chose to use this time to exercise, that’s great, but you don’t have to.  You can start by just making yourself a cup of coffee and enjoying the peace and quiet, or reading a good book. 

You can take the dog for a walk, meditate, eat breakfast, write in a journal, watch tv, whatever you want to do, but just try it!  If you are waking up, because your kids are waking you up, you are already starting off your day on someone else’s terms. 

Try it for one week and I bet you will get more and more productive in this hour.  Before you know it, you will be working out for 30 minutes followed by the best cup of coffee ever!
