When we are invited to a cookout or if we are just craving some good cookout food, I always search for vegan versions of our favorites.  If you give in a little effort you can almost always find a healthier version of the “maybe not so healthy” foods.  It can be as easy as switching out a few ingredients for some non-dairy foods or leaving out the oil and butter. These 10 healthy vegan 4th of July side-dishes are sure to satisfy without all the extra calories and guilt.

If you are trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight it’s important to not overthink your diet or stress over what you are eating.  This will cause more stress and lead to binge eating.  Try to simplify it and think about how you fill your plate.  If you take one of these healthy vegan recipes with you, you will for sure have something healthy to put on your plate.

Fill your plate the healthy way!

When you head up to fill your plate, try to fill it with 1/2 fruits and veggies, 1/4 with a healthy protein (if available), and 1/4 with dessert or whatever unhealthy food you’re craving.  If you want to head up for seconds fill your next plate the same way.  Don’t just head up for seconds of dessert.  Now, go back to the fruits and veggies, healthy protein, and then another dessert.

You are probably thinking “I won’t be able to eat all that!”.  Well, that’s the point!  If you fill up on fruits and veggies you won’t have the room to stuff yourself with desserts.  When you eat whole foods they fill you up more and you really won’t be able to overeat.  Anyway, try taking one of these 10 healthy vegan 4th of July side-dishes to your next party and share the recipe with your friends!
